Call for contributions
Theme and Topics
For this 10 year anniversary, the proposed theme "Hacking and Making with Web Audio", is intended to invite scholars, researchers, developers, designers and artists to explore and engage with new usage of the Web Audio API across various disciplines and contexts. In particular, we will welcome original contributions that re-question and propose novel use of Web and Audio technologies, e.g. in their relation to more traditional music technologies and ecosystem, with or without the Internet or mixing paradigms such as mobile or IoT technologies.
Further areas of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Web Audio API, Web MIDI, Web RTC and other existing or emerging web standards for audio and music.
- Development tools, practices, and strategies of web audio applications.
- Innovative audio-based web applications.
- Web-based music composition, production, delivery, and experience.
- Client-side audio engines and audio processing/rendering (real-time or non real-time).
- Cloud/HPC for music production and live performances.
- Audio data and metadata formats and network delivery.
- Server-side audio processing and client access.
- Frameworks for audio synthesis, processing, and transformation.
- Web-based audio visualization and/or sonification.
- Multimedia integration.
- Web-based live coding and collaborative environments for audio and music generation.
- Web standards and use of standards within audio-based web projects.
- Hardware and tangible interfaces and human-computer interaction in web applications.
- Codecs and standards for remote audio transmission.
- Any other innovative work related to web audio that does not fall into the above categories.
Submission Tracks
We welcome submissions in the following tracks : paper (short and long), practitioner talk, performance, demos and workshops.
All submissions will be single-blinded reviewed. The conference proceedings, which will include both papers (short and long) and extended abstracts (for talks, demos, performances, and artworks), will be published open-access online with Creative Commons attribution, and with an ISSN number.
- Long papers: 6-10 page paper to be presented as an oral presentation.
- Short papers: 2-4 page paper to be presented as poster presentation.
- Practitioner talk: 1-2 page extended abstract to be presented as a short oral presentation. This track aims at welcoming contributions from solo developers, designers, artists, hackers, industry professionals, or broadly speaking practitioners, who wish to share knowledge about web audio related topics such as Web Audio API, Web MIDI, embedded hardware, DMI, etc., but are not used to the standards of academic writing. The proposal must include a title, a brief related work, a description of the work or topic to be presented and a short biography of the author(s). Please contact the session chairs if you have questions and / or need some support.
- Performance: Submit a performance making creative use of web-based audio applications. Performances can include elements such as audience device participation and collaboration, web-based interfaces, embedded hardware, DMI, Web MIDI, WebSockets, and/or other imaginative approaches to web technology. Performance submissions consist of a 1-2 page extended abstract that must include a title, a description of the performance, links to audio / video documentation of the work, biographies of all performers and a complete list of technical requirements. If your proposal requires unusual equipment to be provided by conference organizers, please contact the session chairs to ensure the feasibility of the proposal.
- Artworks and Demos: Submit a work to be presented as an artwork or hands-on demo which makes significant use of web audio standards such as Web Audio API or Web MIDI in conjunction with other technologies such as HTML5 graphics, WebGL, and Virtual Reality frameworks. Artwork and demo submissions consist of a 1-2 page extended abstract including a title, a description of the project, diagrams, images or links to online resources. Works must be suitable for presentation on a computer kiosk with headphones. If your proposal requires unusual equipment to be provided by conference organizers, please contact the session chairs to ensure the feasibility of the proposal.
- Workshop: If you are interested in running a workshop session at the conference, please contact the organizers directly.
Important note: due to time and space constraints, in particular regarding the performance session, the committee may requalify a proposal into another track, e.g. from performance to artwork or demo.
If you have a question, please fill an issue there https://github.com/ircam-ismm/wac-2025 with the name of the track in the issue title (e.g. [demo] the title of my question
).

Templates
For both short paper and long paper tracks, authors must use one of the following templates:
For other tracks, authors that are not used to LaTeX may instead use the following google doc example as a start and adapt it to their need.
In all cases, the final document should be submitted as a .pdf
file.
